The Guide Project

The Guide Project

Highfield Healthy Lifestyle will deliver a training programme for local people living in the outlying estates of Holme Wood and Bierley who are unemployed and need to enhance their employability skills. This new programme is called the Guide Project, which is following on from the successful Guide Project we ran 4 years ago.

Part of a district wide programme called STEPS funded

through the Working Neighborhood Fund

We are recruiting local people who are unemployed and interested in health and community work to join  a group of trainees who will have an initial 2 weeks induction programme (over 2 half days The induction programme will also act as a confidence building exercise using group activities..

Following the induction, trainees will be given the opportunity to undertake accredited training in food and nutrition.  The trainees will have the option to complete this at level 1 or level 2.

Preparing the trainees for employment they will be given the opportunity to undertake training in financial inclusion and also C.V. writing.

Artworks will offer a half day session in community health development.

All of these activities will take place in the Gateway Centre, Tong Street.

During the training and following the training we will offer each trainee the opportunity to undertake a work placement , particularly targeting health and community employment outlets.

At the end of each programme each trainee will also have a ‘one to one’ moving on assessment. Here options will be discussed, which may have already been developed during the life of their programme e.g. moving onto further training, employment or volunteering.

This is an exciting opportunity, which is offering free training and support.
