An insight into the aim of Highfield Healthy Lifestyle; what we do and why we do it.

  • To improve lifestyles through training programmes in diet and fitness
  • To improve lifestyles through support programmes/groups
  • Resource funding to develop new programmes      
  • To build partnerships with other organisations in Bradford working to reduce health inequalities
  • Develop programmes which will improve health and wellbeing

 
Various projects are run in the local area and also across the district of Bradford to reduce health inequalities in South Bradford.


Objectives are to:

 

  • To promote the oral health of under 5’s.
  • To provide support in the following areas: stop smoking, visual impairment, anger management, domestic abuse, bereavement.
  • Provide accessible information to young people to enable them to gain skills and make informed choices about health and pass this onto their peers.
  • Provide a social prescribing project, known as CHAT. Taking referrals from clinicians in the health centre to promote the health and wellbeing of patients.
  • To develop sports in Holmewood and Bierley in terms of access, increasing provision and training volunteers. To increase the exercise taken locally.
  • To reduce obesity in children through a targeted Healthy Active Lifestyle programme in primary schools.
  • To deliver services that are accessible, responsive and appropriate to meet the diverse needs of different groups and individuals e.g. disabilities.
  • To provide two advice services a week
  • To run a Speak Easy {sexual health)  programme in the locality
  • To deliver health checks in local venues with the aim of responding to early health warning signs e.g. diabetes, blood pressure.
